The short answer

Standard workplace and pre-employment drug tests do not screen for psilocybin. The common 5-panel and 10-panel tests look for cannabis, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, and PCP, none of which is psilocybin or psilocin.

Only a specialised test, which is expensive and rarely ordered outside legal or forensic cases, can detect it, and even then the window is short. This page is factual information, not a way to help anyone get around a legitimate test.

The short version

Most people asking this are picturing a routine workplace test. Those tests do not look for psilocybin at all.

The standard drug panels used by almost all employers and sports programs screen for five core substance groups: cannabis, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, and PCP. Psilocybin and its active form psilocin are not on that list. Adding them requires a separate, specialised test that most labs do not routinely offer, largely because it is costly and psilocin leaves the body quickly. So in the great majority of routine screenings, psilocybin simply is not something the test is looking for. If you want the background on how the body processes it, see what mushrooms do to your brain.

Test types and windows

Detection depends entirely on which test is used. These are general reference windows; they vary with dose, metabolism, and timing.

TestDetects it?Typical window
Standard 5 or 10-panel urineNoNot screened for at all. This is what most employers use.
Specialised urineYesRoughly 24 hours, sometimes up to 72, after use. Rarely ordered.
BloodRarelyVery short, often under about 12 to 15 hours. Uncommon for this.
SalivaRarelyAround 24 hours at most. Not a routine method here.
HairSpecialised onlyPotentially up to about 90 days, but very rarely used for psilocybin.

In short: routine tests do not detect it, and the specialised ones that can are expensive and mostly reserved for legal or forensic situations such as court-ordered testing.

What affects detection

When a specialised test is used, several personal factors influence whether and how long psilocin shows up.

Dose

A larger amount means more to process and clear, which can lengthen the window slightly.

Metabolism

Psilocin has a short half-life of roughly three hours, and a faster metabolism clears it sooner.

Time since use

The single biggest factor. Most psilocin is gone within about a day, which is why windows are short.

Hydration and individual factors

Body composition, kidney function, and fluid intake all shift timing person to person.

An honest note

We will not help you cheat a test

This page exists to answer a factual question, not to help anyone get around a legitimate drug test. The only reliable way to test clean is not to have used. Detox products and similar tricks are unreliable and can carry their own risks.

If you are facing a test for work, legal, or safety-sensitive reasons, treat it seriously and get proper advice for your situation. Never use psilocybin before driving or any safety-sensitive task. And in a medical emergency, always be honest with staff about what was taken; it helps them help you.

Common questions

Do magic mushrooms show up on a standard drug test?

No. The common 5-panel and 10-panel tests used by most employers screen for cannabis, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, and PCP. Psilocybin and psilocin are not included, so they are not detected unless a specialised test is specifically ordered.

How long does psilocybin stay in your system?

Psilocin is processed quickly, with a half-life of around three hours, and most is cleared within about 24 hours. A specialised urine test may detect it for roughly 24 to 72 hours depending on dose and metabolism.

Can a test be ordered specifically for psilocybin?

Yes. Specialised panels can detect psilocin, but they are expensive, not part of routine screening, and mostly used in legal or forensic contexts such as court-ordered testing. They are rarely seen in everyday employment checks.

Can I mix magic mushrooms with other drugs?

No. Never combine psilocybin with other drugs, including alcohol and cannabis. Some combinations are genuinely dangerous. Our safety page covers the interactions that matter most, including one to avoid entirely.

Is psilocybin legal in Canada?

No. Psilocybin and psilocin are controlled substances under Canada's Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Legal access is limited to clinical trials and Health Canada's Special Access Program. This is general information, not legal advice.

Do you ship discreetly?

Yes. Orders ship in plain, unmarked packaging with no store name on the outside. For specifics, see our shipping policy, or read how to buy shrooms online in Canada.
